Mihai Ungureanu – Performance and Vision in Long-Distance Pigeon Racing
Mihai Ungureanu stands out as a prominent figure in pigeon racing, both within Prahova County and on the national stage, distinguished by his remarkable achievements in long-distance competitions over the past years.
Beginning his pigeon racing career in 2000, Mihai initially dedicated himself to the Speed–Middle Distance categories, where he achieved consistent and well-recognized results. However, aware of the increasing challenges and high standards of competition, he made the bold decision to advance towards the upper distance categories, embracing a new level of difficulty and sporting ambition.
Through strategic acquisitions from renowned Romanian fanciers such as Stănescu & Dobre, Cosmin Olteanu, and Ariciu Cătălin, Ungureanu Mihai established a strong genetic foundation, which quickly propelled him into the elite ranks of county, provincial, and national pigeon racing.
The year 2019 marked a turning point in his career, as he transitioned from short-distance to long-distance and marathon racing. In a remarkably short period, his efforts were rewarded with outstanding results, including 3rd place in the National Olympic Team – Long Distance Category, a performance that solidified his reputation as a dedicated and visionary competitor.
His determination to excel at long-distance categories continued in the 2023 season, when he triumphed in the Extreme Marathon Ace category, confirming his continuous upward trajectory. Furthermore, his new genetic investments from prestigious European bloodlines – Jan Theelen, Gebr. Kuypers, and Jan Ernest – promise to strengthen and extend this path of success.
Through discipline, foresight, and meticulous attention to the selection and training of his pigeons, Mihai Ungureanu continues to consolidate his status as an elite competitor, emerging as one of the most influential and respected figures in Romanian long-distance pigeon racing today.
