Gebr. de Zwart – Passion and Experience in Marathon Pigeon Racing

Marathon racing is a test of patience, endurance and confidence in pigeons prepared to tackle long distances. For Dick and Wietze de Zwart, the pigeon-fancying brothers from Delft, the Netherlands, this challenge reflects a passion nurtured over the years through dedicated work in the loft and participation in ZLU races.

A milestone in the record of the Gebr. de Zwart loft is the victory at Narbonne ZLU: 1st in Afdeling 12 against 267 p, achieved by the cock NL 07-1705583, bred from an Ernest × Wijnands cross.

This performance came in a demanding race, with adverse weather in Belgium and the Netherlands making the pigeons’ return more difficult. Over a distance of 989.452 km, the cock returned at an average speed of 880.422 m/min, also taking 14th position on the ZLU arrival notification list.

First nominated and first home to the loft, he justified the de Zwart brothers’ confidence. The same pattern had already occurred at Bordeaux, where he was also the first nominated pigeon and the first to return to Delft — two races that highlight his consistency over long distances.

Behind these results lies the experience of two fanciers devoted to long-distance and marathon racing. Their participation in ZLU races over the years, their use of the total widowhood system and their close observation of each pigeon reflect an approach in which preparation, selection and daily care naturally complement one another.

Transportation costs (both domestic and international) will be paid directly to the carriers.

The transportation rates are as follows

• International transport: 250 RON (50 EUR) per pigeon, for deliveries outside Romania.
• External transport: 125 RON (25 EUR) per pigeon for deliveries from Europe to Romania.
• Home delivery: 250 RON (50 EUR) per pigeon.
• Domestic transport within Romania: 75 RON (15 EUR) per pigeon.

Pigeons will be delivered only to county residences, except in cases where the buyer's residence is more than 25 km away from the designated meeting point. In such cases, the courier will recalculate the cost and arrange delivery within the 25 km radius.

Meetings on the roadside, at roundabouts, intersections, etc., are excluded.

The courier is required to notify the buyer one day before delivery and again 1.5 to 2 hours before arriving at the meeting point. Upon request and for an additional cost of 5 RON, pigeons can be delivered in a cardboard box.

Delivery times:

• 1-7 days from the date of collection for deliveries within Romania.
• 1-10 days for international deliveries.

Working hours:
Monday - Sunday, from 07:00 to 23:00.

During transportation, the pigeons are considered the property of the courier, who is directly responsible for their well-being. If a pigeon does not meet clinical standards (is unhealthy or weak), the courier is obligated to refuse collection from the seller and immediately inform the auction site's management. Any issues caused by the courier will be financially compensated by them.
