In the 2025 season, pigeon fanciers from the Suceava Branch are competing, for the first time, on two racing plans for the Speed and Middle-Distance categories. In this context, the breeders participating in Plan 1 held the first Middle-Distance race of the year on May 10. In this stage, Laurențiu Paiu and Iosif Samoilă stood out as the winners, each taking first place in the two rankings (pigeons and breeders).
For the first Middle-Distance race, the Suceava pigeon fanciers on Plan 1 chose to release their pigeons from the town of Jankovice in Poland. In fact, all seven Middle-Distance races will have this same release location, which offers distances between 350 and 400 km for all participants. The 9,710 pigeons entered in the race were released at 06:27 AM.
Laurențiu Paiu Takes First Place in the Pigeon Ranking
Laurențiu Paiu, a pigeon fancier from Plopeni and a member of the “Phoenix Bucovina” Pigeon Club, participated in the Jankovice 1 race with a team of 52 pigeons. His racing distance was 373 km, and by the end of the ranking, a cock raced by Laurențiu Paiu turned out to be the overall winner of the competition. The cock, with the ring number RO-2023-0719699, arrived at the loft at 10:53:13, after over four hours of flight, achieving an average speed of 1,401.25 meters per minute.
In addition, Laurențiu Paiu also secured 10th place in the overall release ranking, and ranked 14th in the breeders' ranking. Out of the 52 pigeons entered, 17 managed to place, and the team pigeons achieved a penalty score of 59.42 points.
Iosif Samoilă Is the Other Winner
Despite being young and entering a small team of pigeons, Iosif Samoilă managed to claim first place in the breeder ranking of the Jankovice 1 race, surpassing competition from 228 pigeon fanciers. He lives in Mitocu Dragomirnei and is also a member of the “Phoenix Bucovina” club. Iosif Samoilă entered only 18 pigeons in this Middle-Distance race, of which 4 placed. He secured first place in the fanciers ranking thanks to the performance of his first two arriving pigeons — the hen RO-2022-3002840 and the cock RO-2023-0561614 — who were among his designated five team pigeons. They placed 24th and 52nd in the release ranking, earning the lowest penalty score in the breeder standings, with 7.83 penalty points. For Iosif Samoilă, the Jankovice 1 stage had a distance of 361 km.
