The pigeon fancier from Gorj County, Victor Burghiu of Târgu-Jiu, enjoyed an exceptional 2025 young bird season, with performances that will be extremely difficult to match—perhaps even by himself. In a single competitive year, he managed to compile an impressive collection of national trophies, surpassing achievements that many breeders accumulate over an entire career. Moreover, Victor Burghiu dominated several categories outright, especially the As Speed category, achieving benchmark results with a relatively small team of young birds.
As previously reported, Victor Burghiu is the national champion in the Young Birds Speed category for the 2025 season, while also ranking 3rd nationally in the same category. These achievements are complemented by 1st place in the national Olympic team – Category F, as well as 1st place in the Young Birds Breeders category. However, the result that captured the attention of the entire pigeon fancying community is his performance in the Young Birds Speed Ace category, where Victor Burghiu occupies the top four national positions—an unprecedented achievement.
A national record that will be hard to beat
If we were to view things in a more poetic light, one might say that in the Speed Ace category Victor Burghiu competed only against himself. In reality, the competition was numerous and strong, but consistency, the quality of the pigeons, and the preparation system made the difference. The final result is remarkable and establishes a new national record. The quality of the genetic material, a well-thought-out racing system, and rapidly accumulated experience were the key ingredients that propelled Victor Burghiu from trophy to trophy, culminating in this historic performance in the Young Birds As Speed category.
Performers of the Young Birds As Speed category
The pigeons that achieved this performance are:
· RO-2025-0455616 – National Champion Young Birds As Speed, with 30.34 penalty points
· RO-2025-0455623 – 50.62 points, National Champion in the Young Birds Speed category
· RO-2025-0455624 – 50.67 penalty points
· RO-2025-0455615 – 80.29 penalty points
Pigeons from established sprint families
Although this is his first competitive season, Victor Burghiu cannot truly be considered a beginner. His entry into competition was carefully prepared, both through the acquisition of pigeons from current top bloodlines and through the accumulation of the knowledge required to perform at national level.
“I started the season with 35 young birds, two of which were later withdrawn for breeding. I raced them using a system largely designed by myself, by adapting and combining already established methods. At one point, the young birds were separated by sex. As for training, I went with a single daily training session of about 40 minutes to a maximum of one hour, depurative feed and Gerry from Versele Laga, supplemented with products from Rohnfried and Fly Power from CEST Pharma. Once a week, the young birds also did a 40 km training toss. I believe the difference was made first and foremost by the quality of the pigeons, which come from very strong sprint families,” explains Victor Burghiu.
In his loft there are pigeons from renowned lines such as Dirk van den Bulck, Rene Vervoort, Flanders Collection (the Radu Brothers – Hunedoara), as well as Rudy van Reeth (Alin Mihuți – Hunedoara). The young birds that achieved these results descend from well-established pigeons such as “Super Green,” “Pitbull,” or even “Best Kittel.”
A family of champions
To complete the picture, it should be mentioned that most of the super-performers are related to one another. The national champion Young Birds Speed Ace is a full brother to the Olympic pigeon in Category F, and the two are cousins to the pigeon ranked 2nd in the Speed Ace category and national champion in Young Birds Speed. At the same time, the pigeons ranked 3rd and 4th nationally are full brothers, while another brother of theirs occupies 8th place nationally in the Speed Ace category.
