Kunszallas 2: a catastrophe for some, a perfect race for Claudiu Sârghi

Four stages have taken place so far in the 2025 young birds season of the Timiș branch, a championship that began on August 23. Out of these four competitions, the most difficult was the second one, Kunszallas 2, where, by the time the race was closed, only 29.19% of the pigeons entered had returned.

With such a small percentage of pigeons back by the race closure, which took place the following day, it was clear that every fancier was recording considerable losses. However, young fancier Claudiu Sârghi was not among them. His pigeons arrived very well from the very first day, in large numbers, and secured the top places in the ranking.

Places 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 at release

Each young bird season is very important for Claudiu Sârghi, a young fancier from Timiș County, in the town of Sânnicolau Mare. He approaches the young bird stages with maximum seriousness and has so far managed to achieve very important results, both in terms of standards and stages. Such a result was recorded in the Kunszallas 2 race (102 km), where he took places 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 at release, against 2,706 pigeons. Released at 07:15, Claudiu Sârghi’s eight pigeons arrived at the loft between 09:01:43 and 09:01:58.

“Although they were bred quite early, in January, the youngsters were not kept in the dark. Instead, I race them as widowers. The stage was very difficult, with many losses among my fellow fanciers, but my pigeons managed well. Apart from the fact that they won the top places at release, almost all of them came back, with only one missing. Young bird races have always been a goal for me. I prepare them quite seriously. In addition to home training, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays I take them to a 67 km training. Sometimes they see each other, sometimes they don’t. What’s certain is that in the last training, I don’t let them see each other. The feed I use is a light one, Gerry from Versele Laga, to which I add, at one single meal before basketing, the energy mix from Vanrobaeys,” explained Claudiu Sârghi.

1st place fanciers

But this series of arrivals was not the only achievement recorded by Claudiu Sârghi in this race. Proof of the seriousness with which he approaches competitions, as well as of his skill, the first two pigeons to arrive in the race were among those chosen by Claudiu for the team. Thus, by taking 1st and 2nd place at release, these two young flyers also brought him 1st place in the fanciers’ ranking, with only 1.11 penalty points, where he had to compete against 64 fanciers.
