The Western Pigeon Racing Province includes the following pigeon racing branches: Maramureș, Sălaj, Arad, Bihor, Timiș, Satu Mare, and Caraș Severin. Six of these branches—all except Caraș Severin—held their first marathon category race of the 2025 season together. The release location was Karlovy Vary, with the pigeons being released on June 21.
In total, for the first marathon race of the 2025 season, 517 pigeon fanciers from the mentioned counties entered 7,217 pigeons. By county, the figures were as follows: Arad: 1,813 pigeons and 99 fanciers; Bihor: 1,788 pigeons and 126 fanciers; Satu Mare: 895 pigeons and 59 fanciers; Timiș: 2,114 pigeons and 136 fanciers; Maramureș: 205 pigeons and 41 fanciers; Sălaj: 402 pigeons and 56 fanciers. The pigeons for the Karlovy Vary 1 race were released at 06:36 AM.
Florian Bront – Winner of First Place in the Overall Release
An important race due to the high number of pigeons and participants, as well as the wide geographical area of the counties involved, the Karlovy Vary stage was won, in the pigeon ranking, by a top fancier from Arad County. His name is Florian Bront, from the village of Udviniș. He entered 36 pigeons in the Karlovy Vary race and won 1st place overall with the hen RO-2023-0053112, which arrived at 16:39:54. Her recorded speed was 1,232.85 m/min.
1st Place in the Fancier Ranking – The Weiss+Liep Team
In the overall fanciers ranking, 1st place went to the Weiss+Liep team, composed of fanciers Zoltan Weiss and Werner Liep. Mentor and apprentice, Zoltan Weiss competes under this partnership out of respect for Werner Liep, a German fancier from whom he learned the secrets of pigeon racing and from whom he has acquired most of his pigeons. Their result is even more impressive considering they entered only 4 pigeons. All four were ranked, with their top two pigeons (which formed the scoring team) placing 3rd and 96th in the overall release, and 1st and 21st in their county! Their total score was 13.72!
