Comb. Den Haan, a real life story about love, family, and last but not least pigeons that write history all over the world.
The story of the tandem formed by husband Jan and wife Karen began several decades ago, Jan a great lover of pigeons and his wife who joined him forming a fabulous tandem with spectacular results and references.
Without "Verbart 46" their story would not have been so successful, winner of more than 15 top prizes, and later becoming a super breeder. "Verbart 46" was bought together with his son "Verbart 57" also a super flyer winner of 8 places of 1. Both were bought in 1974 from Piet Verbart having as origin De Klak pigeons.
Piet de Weerd himself said: "Verbart 46 is one of the best pigeons I have ever seen". Not only the fact that he was a super flyer, but he became a breeder whose descendants won top prizes, national championships and even prizes on the world's largest pigeon lofts. In an article of the Dutch editorial Pigeon Magazin "Verbart 67" was ranked as the best breeder of the last century.
For the famous tandem, things were not always perfect, and as life is not always fair, in 2013 Jan passed away, leaving Karen to continue the story of these pigeons.
With a lot of dedication, and as a sign of love for what Jan represented, she continued to compete in the Dutch championship and to obtain top prizes in the pigeons competitions, being the only category that she decided to tackle.
Wanting to do everything superlatively, Karen considered that she had to bring something extra to the breeder and so birds from Peter Veenstra, Leo Heremans or Stefaan Lambrechts joined the breeding group.
After the death of her husband, Karen managed to win 4 times in the provincial contests. Moreover, in 2019, he managed to be the best breeder with chicks, achieving numerous top prizes with pigeons such as "Storming Haan", "Haantje De Voorste", "Janka", "Cath Me" and their descendants of the line of the famous " Verbart 67".
Karen's most recent top result was in 2022, where in the Wesland competition she managed to win 1st, 2nd place out of 4328 pigeons.
Karen Den Haan, with a lot of dedication and love for her husband, continues to keep alive the story of the "Den Haan" pigeons and the famous "Verbart 57", obtaining top prizes at the pigeons competitions, and references all over the world.
