Last weekend, the second race of the new pigeon season in Belgium took place, where several thousand pigeons gathered in Aaras in the ranking of mature + young pigeons.

In each speed competition, the eyes of the pigeon fanciers are fixed on the rankings of their own club, which have become real challenges, both from a competitive and financial point of view. In the few decades these races have become a true tradition but also a challenge in the skill and training of pigeons with orientation abilities and incredible speeds.

In the Arras competition, the first place in the general classification of mature + young pigeons was occupied by none other than Chris Debacker, one of the great stars of the Leie region in the famous West Flanders.

A specialist in one-day competitions, for several decades he has formed a family of pigeons capable of winning especially in half-distance races, but their results in the rest of the categories are not to be taken lightly either.

For Chris Dekacker from Leie, life was not always spectacular, being subjected to all kinds of trials, Covid 19 or the theft of pigeons in 2021 were the last problems he faced. Despite these problems, he always enjoys the success he has with the homing pigeons and lives a simple life like any other person.

He fills the first part of the day since the early hours of the morning with the preparation of the pigeons and then goes to the school in Leie where he is the director of a primary school. In the past, for 14 years, he was the director of a renowned Guldensporencollege high school in Kortrijk, but after finishing his two children's studies, he was especially looking for familiar peace.

Unfortunately, bad things followed him every step of the way, being very seriously affected by Covid 19 and unable to be with his family and pigeons for a long time. Moreover, perhaps the most painful part of his life was when his own pigeons were stolen.

On a Friday the 13th, thieves robbed him and left him without the best pigeons and since then he has been living a real frustration not understanding how someone can enjoy his own pigeons that he built with his own hands.

His family was by his side, and as Chris is not a man to give up, he took it all over again and as a sign from God he continued to win countless top prizes.

The first pigeon registered in the Arras competition was none other than "Gido Nick" who in the 2021 season managed to win the 5th place National AS Demifond. Both at the club level out of the 232 mature pigeons, as well as in the general ranking out of 2630 pigeons, "Gido Nick" was on the first position of the ranking.

As regards the ranking of the club within the mature birds, it dominated, managing to rank 8 pigeons in the top 10, respectively 11 pigeons in the top 100 in the general ranking.

Also, the ranking of young birds was dominated by this, managing to win the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th... out of 153 young pigeons.

Certainly, such a debut in the new season for Chris Debacker is not an accident, and what follows is only the warm-up for the half-distance stages in which he has specialized in the several decades of pigeon racing.
