Entire provinces, such as Moldova, focus only on this category, and the results of Romanian pigeon fanciers in this category are getting better and better, including at the international level. Things were the same in the 2023 season, when Romanian breeders intensely contested the trophies up for grabs in this category.
Like most categories, the Marathon category is divided into separate rankings for youngs and mature pigeons. In the 2023 season, 4,427 mature pigeons achieved the Marathon category norm, and 2,987 yearlings achieved the norm.
Top 3 National Mature Marathon
The 1st national place in the Old Birds Marathon category was obtained by one of the old champions of this category. It is about Elisei Eacobuță, from Bacău, who won a new national trophy in this category, after the one in 2019. The champion is a cock, with the series RO-2021-0214037, who accumulated a coefficient of only 1.36 points. The races with which he achieved this performance are Goldap (898 km), where he took 2nd place out of 3,082 pigeons and Birzai Național (1,113 km), where he took 2nd place out of 2,819 pigeons. He is followed by the Tanasie & Carabas tandem from Arad, with the hen RO-2019-1001591, which obtained a score of 1.53 penalty points. The national podium is completed by another national champion with "old states", in the person of Relu Iureți, from Botoşani. Top 3 National Youth Marathon
In Yearlings, the first place at the national level was achieved by Mircea Cătălin, from Dâmbovița. The champion is a cock, RO-2022-0226223, who accumulated 1.77 penalty points. The two races with which he managed to win the most coveted trophy in this category were launched from Poland. At the Wlodawa race (787 km) he took 2nd place out of 3,280 pigeons. In the second competition, Marylin Național (813 km), got 2nd place out of 1,727 pigeons. The next ranked is Sorin Stoica, from Iași, who obtained 2nd place in the National Yearlings Marathon with the help of cock RO-2022-0011130, penalized with 3.49 points.
