Breeders Marathon 2025 – A Category of Mastery

The Breeders Marathon category undoubtedly remains one of the most attractive and representative divisions in pigeon racing. The requirement to achieve the norm through three marathon races, without the possibility of a reserve race, turns this category into a true test of complete competence: preparation, strategy, and inspiration in team selection. Under these conditions, reaching the national podium is not just a performance, but a validation for each of the national laureates.

The 2025 season brings to the forefront, in the Breeders Marathon category, three fanciers from different regions of the country – Brăila, Arad, and Botoșani – each competing on distinct routes, yet managing to reach the same level of excellence. Ionuț-Liviu Stan, Nicolae Tau, and Radu Chiribuc occupy the top three positions in a solid ranking that totaled 641 norms.

Ionuț-Liviu Stan – A flawless season

For Ionuț-Liviu Stan, the 2025 season can be considered a benchmark year. Although the National Champion title in Marathon Palmares 2 Years (Pigeons) represents a remarkable achievement, the true scale of his performance took shape in the Breeders Marathon category. Here, the fancier from Brăila achieved an almost perfect run, securing 1st National Breeders Marathon 2025, 2nd National Breeders Marathon Palmares 2 Years, and 2nd National Breeders Marathon Palmares 3 Years. These results were achieved with a relatively small team of pigeons raced on the natural system, highlighting the efficiency of the chosen strategy. The decisive rankings were: 1st place at Sokolka National (370 fanciers / 3,697 pigeons / 961 km), where he entered 7 pigeons and clocked 6; 2nd place at Terespol (223 fanciers / 4,231 pigeons / 825 km), with 17 pigeons clocked out of 22 entered; and 2nd place at Terespol 2 (123 fanciers / 2,186 pigeons / 825 km), where 8 out of 20 pigeons were timed. These results accumulated a final coefficient of 44.71 penalty points.

Regarding the racing method, the pigeons were paired at the beginning of April and kept on the natural system throughout the entire season. Preparation was uniform, including for extreme marathon stages. Nest positions were strategically varied: 14–15 day eggs for the first marathon, small youngsters for the second, and big youngsters or driving to the nest for the third. Feeding was based exclusively on the Gino Clucque mix from Vanrobaeys, and training was carried out daily in the morning at 05:00. Between marathon races, the pigeons were entered in speed races, and before basketing they benefited from a training toss of approximately 40–45 km.

Nicolae Tau – Experience and passion turned into performance

In the case of Nicolae Tau, performance comes on the foundation of solid experience and a special passion. A well-established fancier from the Arad branch, he continues to confirm year after year, especially in marathon racing, where consistency is essential. The 2025 season, however, represented a peak: double National Vice Champion in Breeders Marathon and Ace Marathon (Old Birds), complemented by 4th National place in Marathon Palmares and 3rd place in the national Olympic team at the E-Marathon Palmares 2 Years category. His performances were made possible by remarkable rankings: 2nd place at Dresden National (609 fanciers / 5,156 pigeons / 817 km), 2nd place at Karlovy Vary 1 (517 fanciers / 7,217 pigeons / 758 km), and 3rd place at Karlovy Vary 2 (452 fanciers / 3,024 pigeons / 758 km), all in the general classifications. In the Breeders Marathon category, the norm was achieved with 49.87 penalty points.

The racing system used is widowhood, after an initial period on the natural system up to before the first marathon. Feeding is based on self-made mixtures composed of a variety of seeds, supplemented with Irisz racing feed. Training is carried out daily, twice a day, and before marathon races the pigeons are taken for a training toss of approximately 40 km, from which they are allowed to meet.

Radu Chiribuc – A strong debut and national podium

Radu Chiribuc completes the national podium of the category after a very good and defining season for his loft. The fancier from Botoșani started strong by winning the Jonava race in the breeders’ classification, in a highly competitive event: 687 fanciers / 8,943 pigeons / 852 km. Out of 14 pigeons entered, 5 were clocked, the team accumulating a coefficient of only 1.45 penalty points. This result provided an excellent start and the first step toward the national cup. At the next race, Kaunas National (773 km), Radu Chiribuc’s pigeons confirmed their good form: out of 12 pigeons entered, 5 were clocked in the general classification (15,432 pigeons) and 6 at county level (1,878 pigeons), achieving 4th place in the general breeders’ ranking and 1st place at county level. The coefficient obtained was 8.51 penalty points.

The norm was completed at the Seta race (775 km), where Radu Chiribuc placed 28th in the general classification (888 fanciers), participating with 5 pigeons, of which 4 managed to clock. The total coefficient was 51.09 penalty points.
