The brothers Ionel and Lucian Aparaschivei are what we could call a classic example of pigeon breeders only passionate about the marathon, following the model of the very well-known and old pigeon fanciers from Holland or Belgium. Since they started in this sport until now, that is exactly three decades, they have not been interested in another category, and their pigeons have not disappointed them, bringing them the greatest possible satisfaction.
Ionel and Lucian Aparaschivei are from Fălticeni, Suceava county, and they started competing in 1993. The first pigeons they worked with were local pigeons, coming from pigeon fanciers in their area, as was the case with the two females purchased in year 1999 from Petru Nichilciuc, from Botosani. One of these females became the mother of the first top pigeon from their breeding, the female "Yearlinga", 2th national in 2004 in the Marathon Palmares category. This same female also took the 3rd national place in the International Marathon category, in the same year 2004.
The right time for a major change
After these results there followed a period of several years in which the Aparaschivei brothers maintained themselves at a good level, but did not excel as before. Thus, they decided it was time to change something in the loft. They realized that their pigeons needed a strong infusion of new blood, bringing among other pigeons, a female from Liviu Ujeniuc in 2013. This, paired with a son from Yearlinga, produced another very good flyer of their loft, which for 5 years fulfilled the Marathon category norms, ranking no less than 15 marathon stages and also being county champion in 2019.
Two exceptional pigeons
Starting in 2015, the two brothers from Falticeni decided to make even stronger infusions. They started bringing in pigeons with results from the West, most of them with DNA tests and coming from pigeons from famous line. On this account, they also purchased some pigeons from Sorin Iftime. Two of the pigeons purchased from him reproduced "Olimpic Sorina", the female that became national champion in the As Maraton Palmares 2021 category, but also took the 3rd national place in the Marathon Palmares and As Maraton Maturi 2021 categories. In 2022 they had another super-flyer. This was "Schumy", the National Champion in the Yearling Marathon category, with 0.53 penalty points. He is bred from a male from the same Sorin Iftime and a female from Cristi State, the offspring of some very good fliers from his breeder. Regarding the flying method of the Aparaschiva brothers, we can say that this is also a classic one for the marathon, the two competing naturally. After they are mated as late as possible, their fliers raise one young at a time. Another series of eggs follows, which is thrown, so that in the first marathon the pigeons are employed on the eggs for about 10 days. The second marathon will be played from the youngsters.
Currently, the two pigeon fanciers have started a new project. Having two national champions in their own breeding, they decided to do several joint matings with the pigeons of other national marathon champions, with the products being shared. As such, their breeding loft consists almost exclusively of sons and daughters of national champions.
