Alexandru Popescu (DJ) Wins Three First Places in Three Consecutive Races

After six seasons of competing in the Gorj Branch, during which he became one of the top county and provincial champions, Alexandru Popescu moved his loft to Dolj County, in the village of Marotinu de Sus. This relocation took place in the autumn of 2023, during the young bird season. That same season, competing under the name "Team Popescu Alex", Alexandru Popescu won his first county trophy as a member of the Dolj Branch, becoming the Speed Young Birds category champion.

He followed up with an even better 2024 season, at the end of which he was crowned Provincial Champion in the All Round Yearlings category, also achieving 9th place at the national level. Currently, with the 2025 season at its midpoint, Alexandru Popescu is on the verge of achieving notable national results.

His favorite category is the All Round category. As a member of the Gorj Branch, in 2022, he ranked second in Romania’s Olympic team in the D-All Round category. As mentioned earlier, in 2024, he was provincial champion in the All Round Yearlings category, and in 2025, especially after the latest races, he is “in the running” for even greater achievements in that same category and more.

First Place in Three Consecutive Races, from Speed to Long Distance

The 39 pigeons with which Alexandru Popescu started the 2025 season have had good arrivals from the very first race. However, they truly hit peak form in the second half of the season. Thus, Alexandru Popescu managed to win 1st place in three consecutive races, two in the Speed category and one in the Long Distance category.

Top 3 Spots in a Race with 7,974 Pigeons

Alexandru Popescu’s excellent results streak began with the Titu 2 Speed race, which covered 136 km for him. This race took place on May 24, where he entered 36 pigeons and secured the top three spots against a total of 7,974 pigeons and 227 fanciers.

1st and 3rd Place in the Ploiești 1 Race

A week later, on June 7, Alexandru Popescu won 1st place in another Speed race, Ploiești 1, at a distance of 185 km, competing against 4,481 pigeons. In the same race, he also took 3rd place in both the release and fancier rankings, out of 180 competitors.

The “Peak Moment”

After these two consecutive victories in Speed races, Alexandru Popescu went on to win 1st place in the Antonești 2 Long Distance race. This competition, held on June 14, gathered 3,707 pigeons and 177 fanciers. In total, he managed to classify 17 out of the 26 pigeons he entered.
