A Two-Man Battle for the National Podium in the 2025 Youngstres Speed Category

Opening the “Youngsters” section of the Speed category in the 2025 National Catalogue brings to light a truly unique situation. The top five national positions are almost perfectly shared between two pigeon fanciers from Gorj, creating a rare and captivating rivalry in Romanian pigeon racing. The protagonists are Victor Burghiu and Ovidiu Telescu, both from Târgu Jiu, who achieved an exceptional season.

This is the first time, at least in recent history, that the entire national Top 5 in the Youngsters Speed category is occupied solely by fanciers from the same county. The performance is far from accidental: both competitors have implemented a well-designed system, optimized specifically for young bird preparation—an approach that has delivered outstanding results.

Victor Burghiu – A Sensational Debut and National Titles

The 2025 season marked Victor Burghiu’s debut in racing competitions with homing pigeons, and it was a spectacular one. Beyond his impressive results in the Youngsters Speed category, he also excelled in Youngsters Ae Speed and the Olympic F- Youngsters category—topics that will be covered in a separate material.

In the Youngsters Speed rankings, Burghiu holds the 1st, 3rd, and 5th national places. His champion pigeon, RO-2025-0455623, accumulated only 5.64 penalty points, standing out with remarkable classifications: 1st out of 2,131 pigeons (196 km), 2nd out of 1,553 pigeons (149 km), and 3rd out of 3,691 pigeons (218 km).

His second nationally awarded pigeon, RO-2025-0455616, achieved 7.31 penalty points, further strengthening his exceptional debut.

Ovidiu Telescu – Consistency at the National Level

While 2025 is Burghiu’s first year of competition, for Ovidiu Telescu national-level performances are already familiar territory. In tis  Youngsters season, he secured 2nd and 4th places nationally in the Youngsters Speed category, continuing his streak of remarkable results after winning 1st place in the national Olympic team at category F- Youngsters in 2023.

His top young bird of 2025, RO-2025-0455010, scored 6.25 penalty points and distinguished itself with an impressive 1st place against 9,078 pigeons at a distance of 145 km.

The 4th national place was obtained with RO-2025-0455021, which accumulated 8.11 penalty points and also boasts a 1st place earned against 1,180 pigeons at 176 km.
